Program Overview

The Associate of Applied Science in Early Childhood Development is designed to meet the competencies required for the Birth through Pre-Kindergarten Teaching Credential which is required by Act 187 passed by the Arkansas Legislature during the 2009 session. This degree will allow a graduate to apply for the Birth through Pre-Kindergarten Teaching Credential from the Division of Early Care and Education of the Department of Human Services. It will allow the graduate to be the lead teacher in a non-public school classroom or in a Head Start classroom while continuing to pursue a Bachelor’s degree from another institution of higher education. The student will also be qualified to serve as a paraprofessional in a public school pre-kindergarten classroom.

Students must obtain cleared criminal, FBI, and child maltreatment registry checks and a UA-PTC Education ID badge prior to enrollment in ECD and ECTC courses.

1. This program will not allow the graduate to be the lead teacher in a public school pre-kindergarten classroom.

2. Please visit with an Education advisor to discuss recommended full-time or part-time course sequencing.

Degree Requirements

-This degree requires successful completion of 60 credit hours

-A minimum 2.00 cumulative grade-point average required for graduation.

-Students must earn a grade of “C” or better in all courses taken to satisfy the AAS degree in Early Childhood Development.

-This program of study includes special prgram fees beyond current tuition and college fees.

-Satifaction of all financial obligations due to the college is required for graduation.

-Please note: additional prerequisite courses may be required if minimum placement test scores are not met.
