The Department of Allied Health offers an Associate of Applied Science in Surgical Technology. This program is designed to provide students with knowledge and skills for all areas of the operating room, labor & delivery, and outpatient surgery centers. Upon successful program completion, students are required to sit for the Certified Surgical Technologist Exam.
Admission to the Surgical Tech Program is competitive and based on the following factors: Students are selected after November 15th, based on a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher from all high school/ college transcripts and an interview process. Each item is given a score and ranked highest to lowest. The program accepts 20 full-time students each academic year.
- This degree requires successful completion of 60 credit hours.
- A drug screen and background check will be required of all selected students.
- The Surgical Technology Program requires a “C” or better to continue in the professional program.
- Satisfaction of all financial obligations due to the institution is required for graduation.

Upon completion of the program, the graduate will be a competent entry-level Surgical Technologist by demonstration of the psychomotor (skills), affective (behavior), and cognitive (knowledge) learning domains in all the skills necessary to fulfill their roles as a Certified Surgical Technologist.
This includes attributes of motivation, self-confidence, ethical behavior, professionalism, and well-trained professionals. In order to accomplish this goal, the graduate shall be able to:
- Practice a sense of personal responsibility and accountability in the operating room.
- Function effectively as part of a team effort in the surgical services setting.
- Develop a positive and realistic self-image.
- Assist the surgical team in providing quality patient care.
- Utilize the foundation of basic science and subjects to the surgical services.
- Apply the technical skills to function as a Surgical Technologist.
- Complete the program to meet the eligibility requirements for taking the National Certification Exam.
